SUBMISSIONS OPEN FOR THE 16TH CINEFANTASY – INTERNATIONAL FANTASTIC FILM FESTIVAL
The CINEFANTASY – International Fantastic Film Festival is back for its 16th edition, and submissions are now open! Filmmakers from around the world can submit their films until April 15, 2025, as long as they fall within the fantastic genre: horror, science fiction, and/or fantasy.
This edition expands the boundaries of fantastic cinema with two exciting new features: the Fantastic AI competitive session, dedicated to short films created using Artificial Intelligence, and the Fantastic France competitive session, a special session of French genre films celebrating 200 years of diplomatic relations between France and Brazil.
Winners will receive the José Mojica Marins Trophy, and Brazilian productions will compete for awards offered by the festival’s institutional partners. Additionally, the best Brazilian short and feature films will be nominated for the FANTLATAM Award, one of the most prestigious international honors presented by the Latin American Alliance of Fantastic Film Festivals.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE 16TH EDITION
A major highlight this year is the Fantastic AI competitive session, which explores the impact of artificial intelligence on genre cinema. The selection will present innovative narratives that merge human creativity with technology, provoking reflections on the boundaries between the real and the virtual. AI appears both as a creative tool and as a central theme in these stories.
Meanwhile, the Fantastic France competitive session pays tribute to French genre cinema, renowned for its influence on horror, fantasy, and science fiction. From the visual expressionism of Georges Méliès to the unsettling films of the New Wave of French Horror, France has built a rich and innovative cinematographic legacy. This showcase brings together works that reflect the bold aesthetics and storytelling of fantastic French cinema, commemorating 200 years of diplomatic relations between Brazil and France, reinforcing the cultural ties between the two nations.
COMPETITIONS AND SHOWCASES
The festival features a Feature Film Competition and 12 thematic short film competition, covering diverse perspectives within fantastic cinema:
· FEATURE FILM COMPETITION – Open to fiction, documentary, and animation films produced in the last 24 months, with a minimum duration of 60 minutes, captured in any format.
· SHORT FILM COMPETITION – A selection of short films produced in the last 24 months, with a maximum duration of 15 minutes, that have not been screened at festivals in São Paulo. Films can be submitted in the following categories:

The CINEFANTASY is organized by Fly Cow Productions, with support from the Paulo Gustavo Law, SPCine, the Municipal Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy, and the São Paulo City Hall.
